Today's topic;

Dog pregnancy tests.

Getting the dog pregnant is the ultimate goal of dog breeding ("smart guy. huh?") Once the act of breeding (Progesterone tests and artificial inseminations, etc..) is over, the next step is to see if you were successful.

There are a couple of ways to see if they the dog is pregnant;

1. Wait for her to show weight gain and enlarged belly at about 6 weeks.

2. An ultrasound, which is most commonly used at 30 days. (Take a look at our favorite, it comes with professional training!)

3. Relaxin, which can be detected as early as day 25 and more commonly at day 30.

6-weeks is too long to wait, and reverse progesterone can't help you either. The earlier you know the better.

The Ultrasound is great and extremely reliable but also expensive and time-consuming, not to mention the high skill requirement.

The Relaxin pregnancy test is the easiest, and most affordable way to confirm pregnancies.

Here is why you should be using relaxin pregnancy tests.

What is Relaxin Dog Pregnancy Test?

Before we get any further, what exactly is relaxin? Well, in this case, it's not the sweet serenity accompanied by meditation next to a waterfall, no the relaxin we are talking about is a hormone that is produced in female dogs.

In dogs, it is primarily produced and released by the placenta, and to a lesser extent the ovaries.

Just as relaxing next to a waterfall may soothe your mind, allowing thoughts to pass by with ease , relaxin helps in the delivery of babies by "relaxing" the cervix, allowing them to pass through easier.

This makes it a great way to test for pregnancy, as it is only produced during pregnancy. This also means that a false positive is extremely unlikely.

Why Use Relaxin Dog Pregnancy Test?

With that lovely analogy out of the way, let's answer the most important question, "why should you be using relaxin as a pregnancy test?"

There's a couple of reasons.

Ease of use

Relaxin tests are extremely easy to use, especially in comparison to other pregnancy detection methods such as ultrasounds.

No machine is required, simply draw blood, spin it down into serum, and place 3 drops of serum onto the test cartridge. 10 minutes later you will have a result!

Contrast that with the challenge of an ultrasound, dialing in the settings, and applying the gel, not to mention the skill it requires actually locating the babies, relaxin is the best choice for most breeders.

Most always the easy way is the right way.

Storage

Storing the Relaxin kits is a breeze as well, they require no refrigeration and have on average a 12-month shelf life, no more wasted tests!

Easy to interpret

Finally, relaxin is a qualitative test, which means it's super easy to read, if the test line is visible she is pregnant, if it is not visible, the test was either too early or she is not pregnant.

The Relaxin test can detect pregnancy as early as day 25 post-fertilization however 30 days is recommended. Testing before day 30 may produce inaccurate results, as there may not be sufficient relaxin in the bloodstream, just yet.

Affordable
