Weighing puppies every day on the same scale is one of the simplest ways to catch trouble early. A puppy that is not gaining is often the first sign of a fading puppy, a milk-supply problem, or illness, and daily weights catch it days before it is visible. Birth weights also give you a baseline for each litter to compare against future litters.

What to compare before buying. Readability at the gram level (newborns gain in single-digit grams per day), capacity for the breed's adult-size pups, tray size and whether it is easy to sanitize between litters, and battery or adapter operation. Consistency matters more than any single reading: use the same scale, at the same time of day, for every weigh-in.
