What type of analyzer is the Quick Scan 1000?
The Quick Scan 1000 is a Veterinary Immunofluorescence system that is a single test cartridge-based unit that facilitates users from low to high volume.
Tests can be incubated in the instrument using the automatic instrument 15 minute timer or the tray and timers can be used to run multiple tests that incubate at room temperature with the timers set for 15 minutes. When the incubation is complete the test is run on the Quick Scan 1000 in the quick testing mode.
-
How does the Immunofluorescence method work?
The Immunofluorescence method uses an LED as the light source employed to read the test cartridge based on the amount of fluorescent light that is directed from the sample to the detector. The LED light source causes the fluorescence dye in the test cartridge to give off fluorescence wavelength energy. The more energy the sample gives off the stronger the signal at the detector will be. The computer then converts this energy to a number that reflects the amount of analyte (progesterone etc..) present in the sample, displays it on the touch screen, and allows you to print your result.
The fluorescence method allows for very stable test kits that have a 2-year expiration! Love that!
-
Will I have to replace lamps?
No! The LED is internal and never needs replacing. LED technology is inherently very reliable due in part to the very low level of power need to illuminate it. Also if you have any kind of question or problem we offer you total technical support WHEN YOU NEED IT!
-
Is the Quick Scan 1000 Accurate?
We get this question all the time! The quick answer is YES. What we find when talking to folks that call us with this question is that the real question they are asking is - "Will the Quick Scan 1000 give me results that will accurately tell me when the best time to breed or inseminate?" That, in fact, is the real question. The answer to that question is also an emphatic YES. SEE the next question for more details.
-
Will the Quick Scan 1000 give me the same results as my remote testing lab?
YES and NO! Let me explain! What most folks do not know is that the IDEXX, Immulite 1000, Mini Vidas, and many other systems will run the same Progesterone sample and come up with much different results. THIS IS EXPECTED! Is this a problem? NO and here is why.
Some systems are florescent and some are chemiluminescence. The method of measurement is very different hence we get different numbers on the same sample running on the two types of analyzers.
The Quick Scan 1000 has been correlated with the Mini Vidas and the Immulite 1000 which is the reference method for the IDEXX labs.
The calibration of the test kits (using the ID chip in the test kit box) is set for the Quick Scan 1000 to result like a Mini Vidas. The timing charts sent with the lot or downloadable here on the site use this data to give you an easy to read chart for timing.
Example: if you go to your vet and they are running an IDEXX system then you have your test run on a Mini Vidas you will see very different results that may cause you to get your timing solution's wrong if you don't adjust for the method differences. This is very easily done with no pain or effort. We have you covered with our Progesterone Timing Chart that is downloadable under the Download and chart section and below. SEE the NEXT Question for all the details.

How does MRDS standardize the results I get from my lab to know just when I should breed?
This is a very good question. As mentioned in the last question all the lab systems used for testing will give you different test results when doing your Progesterone testing on the same sample. To make sure that everyone getting results from their testing lab knows how to interpret the results they get with the Quick Scan 1000 we include with every system a Progesterone Timing Chart that tells you just what progesterone results you should be looking for to start your breeding! We do all the work running hundreds of sample comparisons on many major systems and then we set up the correlation factors so you get your breeding timing right every time! As a Service company, MRDS has every aspect of your purchase covered. No one else can say that.

I am getting errors when I insert my prepared test cartridge. What is causing this?
-
Make sure that you have inserted the ID CHIP that comes in your test kit. Once you put the ID CHIP into the quick scan 1000 then hit the read button on the screen to read it.
-
Also, make sure that you are putting the test cartridge in the carrier with the ARROW and the BARCODE at the front. If you put it in backwards you will get an error.

Do I need to calibrate my Quick Scan 1000?
The Calibration process for your Quick Scan 1000 is very simple! Your kit lot of Progesterone test kits come with a calibration ID chip. These chip store the "Calibration Curve" for that lot of Progesterone test kits. Sooooo All you need do is insert the ID Chip into the ID Chip reader just left of the cartridge transport receiver. Then hit the read ID Chip button on the lower half of the display screen once it is loaded click on the Yes button to acknowledge the chip was read.
Interesting note: The calibration data on each lot of ID chips are saved in the Quick Scan 1000 memory and are accessed when a test cartridge is entered for testing. The match of the ID Chip calibration data and the cartridge is done using the barcode on the test cartridge you are presenting for testing.

I can not get my test cartridge to enter the quick scan when I hit start. Why?
Make sure you put the test cartridge into the carrier with the arrow (and the barcode) that is printed on the cartridge pointing forward (away from you) then hit start.
Make sure the carrier on the Quick Scan 1000 is in the out position by hitting the "out" button on the bottom of the screen. Then place the cartridge on the carrier with the arrow and barcode pointing away from you and slide the cartridge all the way in till you hit the stop. Then this the start button on the Quick Scan 1000
If you have the test cartridge in backward it will reject the test.
